The Ten Commandments

3/5 (88 mins) G

Despite some very basic computer animation - oh, how Pixar and Dreamworks have spoilt us - this modest retelling of the Moses story is actually more enjoyable than The Prince of Egypt (1998). Designed primarily for children, the film does a surprisingly good job splitting the Red Sea and showing the nastier part of the story involving the Golden Calf and the worshipping of false idols. The celebrity voices include Christian Slater, Ben Kingsley, Alfred Molina and - wait for it - Elliott Gould as the voice of God. -- JIM SCHEMBRI
